How Battery Backup Installation Works in Western Washington
A battery stores excess energy for later use, so your home has a steady electricity supply even when grid power fluctuates or goes out entirely. During normal operation, the battery charges from surplus solar production during the day, or from off-peak grid power if you don’t yet have solar installed.
Then, during peak demand hours or an outage, that stored power flows into your home to keep essentials running: lighting, heating, refrigeration, and anything else on the circuits you choose to back up. Because it’s optimizing when and how you draw from the grid, a battery can meaningfully lower your monthly utility costs even outside of an outage.

What is the difference between Tesla Powerwall 2 and 3?+
Powerwall 3 delivers up to 11.5 kW of continuous power, compared to Powerwall 2’s 5 kW, and it has an integrated inverter with multiple MPPTs for better solar integration. It also uses Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery chemistry instead of the NMC cells used in Powerwall 2, which is generally considered a safer, more thermally stable chemistry.
How long does 13.5 kWh last during an outage?+
It depends on your home’s energy use. For an average household, 13.5 kWh typically powers essential loads for about 6 to 12 hours. Running only low-power devices during an outage can stretch that further, while higher consumption shortens it.
Can one Powerwall 3 run a whole house?+
A single Powerwall 3 can often power essential circuits in a smaller home. For larger homes, or if you want every appliance running simultaneously, you may need multiple units. It ultimately depends on your total load and how many circuits you want backed up.
Do I need solar to install a battery?+
